Have you ever felt discouraged or dismissed by others when trying to pursue your goals and dreams? It can be difficult to stay motivated when no one else seems to believe in you. However, the key to success is not in the approval of others, but in believing in yourself and taking action to make your dreams a reality.
Believing in ourselves is not always easy. We are often our own worst critics, with a constant stream of negative self-talk that can hold us back from reaching our full potential. But if we want to achieve our goals, we need to start by changing the way we think about ourselves and our abilities.
One way to do this is by setting both large and small goals for ourselves. Large goals give us something to work towards and motivate us to take action. However, small goals are just as important, as they give us a sense of accomplishment and help us build momentum towards our larger goals.
In addition, we can rewire our dopamine release by breaking down our goals into small, achievable tasks. This helps our brains release dopamine, a chemical that makes us feel good and motivates us to keep going. By setting achievable goals and celebrating our successes along the way, we can create a positive feedback loop that keeps us motivated and on track.
Vision boards are also a powerful tool for staying motivated and focused on our goals. In her TEDx talk, Patti Dobrowolski suggests drawing a picture of our ideal future, including our goals and the steps we need to take to get there. This engages our right brain, which is responsible for creativity and imagination, and helps us move past the critical left brain that may tell us it’s not worth trying.
Ultimately, we need to dream big, but we also need to pick the right dreams. We need to choose goals that are aligned with our values and passions, and that inspire us to take action. We need to break these goals down into achievable tasks and celebrate our successes along the way. And most importantly, we need to believe in ourselves and our ability to make our dreams a reality.
Dream big, but choose the right dreams and break them down.
Remember, the only person who needs to believe in you is you!
